Tell them what they want to hear, cognitive biases, no opportunity to evaluate competing hypotheses - a recipe for never seeing what’s real until it’s too late. Politicized intelligence. I do believe that from a realistic standpoint, as you highlight in your text, it will be quite difficult to sell States on a project that literally transposes the UNGPs to a binding text (and that don't elaborate further on crucial issues –including jurisdiction!). The obvious question, to me, is why would States sign up to something they have supported politically, especially if they have expressed its support on the basis that the UNGPs are not binding. But yes, as I've mentioned earlier, it will be important to discuss this, and perhaps to find middle ground between this and the IGWG approach.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15724277254115658257noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24800874.post-46213703939579125942020-06-18T03:59:31.779-04:002020-06-18T03:59:31.779-04:00Interesting. My thought is that the end of the international phase is a matter not just of China, but of the series of failures of multinationalism that have marked the first few decades of this century. In other words, if "the international" were healthy, one could imagine China wishing to participate (vide the WTO accession in 1995), and would not, then, have shifted to a more national stance toward Hong Kong. Maybe.
Cheers,
BertAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03046385882291831565noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24800874.post-25953475350749024652020-05-21T07:38:56.385-04:002020-05-21T07:38:56.385-04:00Simply timeless!Simply timeless!
Betita.

Dear Larry Catá Backer, I really enjoyed the information you released.
I knew nothing about these divination practices.
As I agree with you, about religions interconnect the structures the structures of divinity to the human communities around which their worship is structured and the social, political, economic and cultural communities are organized, I think it is positive and logical to offer to devotees and / or for those who simply share the same culture, guidelines for a new cycle that begins.
Regarding the role of the priest, I think that in many religions today, it has changed or if it has not changed, it must change.
Contemporary society calls for more participation, less imposition.
Although for the State, the priest plays an important role of representation, before the community I believe that the “absolute” truths once spread by these leaders have no more space.
Some religions of African origin have the advantage that the people around them are more believing, or perhaps they are less provoked by the disbelief brought about by massive urbanism, and in view of this they "surrender" to their beliefs more vehemently.
The idea of council, of collective, when you mention “priestly caste” seems to be more reasonable, more compatible with the dynamics of today's world.
The priest, as a central figure, for example, has lost much credibility.
Like every priest in the West who holds in his hands "truth."
As an information worker, I don't believe in absolute truth or pre-conceived resolutions "imposed" as the truth.
As an individual, I attend Umbanda and Spiritualism centers.
It has more to do with me.
I will find out more about the Cuban Yoruba community.
Sounds interesting.
As I do not know, I can not speak.
But I will also follow your posts about her.
A hug!
Betita.
Betita Horn Pepulimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06915403730048630508noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24800874.post-85125566607996105602019-04-03T21:15:25.402-04:002019-04-03T21:15:25.402-04:00Very intriguing piece. But I always defend that in the first place comes the exhaustive disclosure of the necessary information. Then comes the rules.

Maybe Trump intuitively knows this. Given that others are challenging the existing governance framework - and the US is losing its dominance - Trump is right inasmuch as the US could potentially change the rules of the game that it apparently is now losing. The question of course is whether time and ability will enable the US to change the rules of the game or whether the die is cast. This indeed is "revolutionary".Joelnoreply@blogger.com
