Dr. Omar Everleny Perez Villanueva, “Los retos económicos del gobierno cubano y posibles soluciones” [Economic Challenges for the Cuban Government and Possible Solutions]-- Association for the Study of the Cuban Economy (ASCE) Webinar Series for 2019-2020




The Association for the Study of the Cuban Economy (ASCE) sponsors a Webinair series that focus on issues of Cuba and Cuban engagement in the world (for prior year Webinair's see, e.g., here).
 La Asociación para el Estudio de la Economía Cubana (ASCE, por sus siglas en inglés) patrocina una serie de Webinair que se centra en los temas de Cuba y el compromiso de Cuba en el mundo (para el año anterior, véase la página de Webinair, por ejemplo, aquí).

The 2019-2020 webinar series sponsored by ASCE will consist of three presentations focused on Cuba’s Economy. The themes will focus on Cuba’s dual currency and the unification of the currency coupled with the economic/political transition and public policies implemented by the Cuban government. The 2019 series is free.
 La serie de seminarios web 2019-2020 patrocinada por la ASCE constará de tres presentaciones centradas en la economía de Cuba. Las ponencias se centrarán en la doble moneda de Cuba y la unificación de la moneda junto con la transición económica / política y las políticas públicas implementadas por el gobierno cubano. Participación por parte del publico en la serie 2019 es gratuita.

On Tuesday March 12, at noon (Eastern standard time), Dr. Omar Everleny Perez Villanuevav will present  “Los retos económicos del gobierno cubano y posibles soluciones” [Economic Challenges for the Cuban Government and Possible Solutions].  The meeting will be moderated by Dr. Jorge Luis Romeu, who will be accepting questions from participants during the webinar at: romeuj@sunvit.edu

Abstract: The Cuban economy is facing significant economic problems due to low productivity, a lack of growth, high dependence on imported energy, an aging population and the emigration of its youth.
Presenter:

Omar Everleny Pérez Villanueva

“Ph.D Economy, Havana University”

Awarded a Doctorate Degree in Economics by the Universidad de la Habana in 1998. Also earned an MA in Economics and International Politics from the Centro de Investigación y Docencia Económicas (CIDE), Mexico City, in 1990 and a BA in Economics from the Universidad de la Habana in 1984.

Former Titular Professor of Economics at the Universidad de la Habana and former Director of the Centro para el Estudio de la Economía Cubana at the same university.

Has been a consultant for international and national organizations and has conducted economic research studies in Latin America, North America, Asia and Europe. He also has experience in conducting comparative economic development studies.

Has given more than 300 lectures in national and international venues, among other locations in the United States, Japan, France, Canada, Spain, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Venezuela, China, Malaysia, Argentina, Peru, Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, Colombia and Norway.

Has held appointments as invited professor in universities in the United States. Japan and France. Has participated in more than 120 international professional events held in Cuba as well and abroad.

Has conducted about 80 research studies regarding different aspects of the Cuban economy and international economics. Has published over 80 articles in professional journals and has co-authored several books published in Cuba and abroad, among them those published with Harvard University, Columbia University, New York University, Sorbonne University Paris 3, Institute of Development Economics (IDE-JETRO) in Japan, Universidad Complutense de Madrid and the Universidad de la Habana.

He is a member of ASCE and has presented various papers on the Cuban Economy at ASCE’s Annual Conferences that can be freely accessed at www.ascecuba.org
