Save the Date and CfP: Association for the Study of the Cuban Economy 34th Annual Conference--"Recovering Cuba," 17-18 October, Miami, Florida

I am happy to pass along  this "save-the-date" and Call for Papers for the next annual conference of the Association for the Study of the Cuban Economy (ASCE) on the board of which I serve. The conference will be held on the campus of Florida International University 17-18 October.

The theme for the 2025 Conference is "Recovering Cuba."

This year’s theme, "Recovering Cuba," explores the country’s current economic situation and potential paths for reform. We invite papers and panels that examine Cuba’s economy from diverse perspectives—including policy, history, and international relations—with a special emphasis on economic reforms. Submissions may also address related topics such as the political or social economy, economic history, comparative lessons, international commercial relations, demography, labor markets, and the Cuban diaspora.
The theme touches on what has become a sort of equilibrium state for Cuba--that it is at a crossroads brought on by the now almost inevitable cycle of crisis--reform--retrenchment--crisis that occurs within a rapidly changing international environment (much as it has since the 1960s).

The deadline for abstract/bio submissions is 15 July which should be sent via email to ascecubaoperationsATgmail.com and jperezlopez703ATgmail.com with the subject line “ASCE 2025 CONFERENCE ABSTRACT”. More information coming to the ASCE Conference Website soon.
