St Mary's Law Launching its 1st Annual BHR Scholars-in-Residence Pipeline Program

I am happy to pass along the announcement of my friends and colleagues  Tara Van Ho (Essex) and Jena Martin (St Mary's) of the first annual Business and Human Rights Scholars-in-Residence Pipeline Program to be held at St Mary's University, San Antonio, Texas.

 More information follows below.

Beginning in the fall of 2025, Tara Van Ho will be joining Jena Martin and other faculty at the St. Mary’s University School of Law with expertise in aspects of Business and Human Rights (BHR). Dr. Van Ho and Professor Martin are world-leading scholars in BHR, producing cutting-edge research that influences academia as well as developments at the United Nations, corporate practice, and national and regional legislation.

St. Mary’s Law, in celebration, is launching its first annual BHR scholars-in-residence pipeline program.

The program is open to three junior faculty at a U.S.-accredited law school (pre-tenured scholars who have been at a law school for three years or less) who would like to develop their scholarship in the BHR field. Scholars selected from the call for papers will have an opportunity to take part in a two-and-a-half day intensive workshop in March 2026. Junior scholars will be paired with senior faculty from across the U.S. who are experts in the BHR field to ensure appropriate mentoring and scholarly development.

Workshop sessions will include: a paper workshop with other junior scholars; editing sessions with senior experts; mentoring discussions related to where the junior faculty’s scholarship fits within their research agenda and the larger BHRfield. There will also be optional faculty presentations to St. Mary’s law professors in order to practice presenting their research to a non-BHR audience. To ensure full participation and research development, only three junior faculty will be chosen for this exciting opportunity.

To apply please send an abstract, a research agenda, and a cover letter to jmartin9@stmarytx.edu by June 15, 2025. We will review your submission and make our decisions in July 2025. We will be using the call for papers and your research agenda to provide you with the best possible mentors for your residency program.

The residency program will pay for airfare (up to $750), meals, and lodging while in attendance.
