I am delighted to pass along the call for papers and panels for the 2024 Annual Conference of the Association for the Study of the Cuban Economy on whose Board I serve. The theme of the conference this year is Cuba in Crisis. In a way that is a persistent theme these past few years. What changes is context and the particular expression of crisis on the State, Party, society, and individuals.

Call for Papers and Panel Proposals
ASCE is issuing a call for papers and panel proposals to be presented at its 2024 Annual Conference, which will be held in Miami, on October 18-20. 2024.
Abstracts of papers or panel proposals should describe original work related to Cuba’s economy in a broad sense, including economic policy, legal, sectoral, and social aspects of economic development. Cuba’s exodus and the Cuban diaspora and its economic and social relationship to the island are also topics of interest.
In particular, the theme of the 2024 conference will be “Cuba in Crisis.” While we are specifically looking for papers that assess the current economic situation and suggested reforms, we also welcome Cuba-focused papers dealing with the political or social economy, economic history, lessons from other countries, international commercial relations, demography, labor market issues and the diaspora.
Abstracts or panel proposals must not exceed 250 words and must be accompanied by a 150-word biography for each author. They must be received by email to asce@ascecuba.org and to jperezlopez703@gmail.com by August 15, 2024. Include the words “ASCE 2024 CONFERENCE ABSTRACT” in the subject line. Authors of accepted papers or panels will be required to register for the annual conference. Information on registration procedures and logistical information will be available in the ASCE website.
Papers presented at the Conference that meet style guidelines will be eligible for being included in the ASCE Papers and Proceedings website in pdf format.
