Event description
Join Macquarie University's Business & Human Rights Access to Justice Lab via zoom for an online webinar on 'The future of business and human rights under the Trump Administration'. The webinar will be moderated by Professor Surya Deva, Director, B&HR Access to Justice Lab, featuring panellists Ms Joanne Bauer, Co-Founder, Rights CoLab; and Ms Marti Flacks, BHR practitioner and former US Government official.
How are the business and human rights initiatives in the United States (US) likely to change under the new US Administration? Will the Trump Administration's stance towards business and human rights have impacts on legal and policy initiatives beyond US borders? Are US businesses and investors able to speak out for human rights, diversity, equity and inclusion, and climate change? To gain insights on some of these issues, join a moderated conversation with two leading experts.
Joanne Bauer is an Adjunct Professor at the School of International and Public Affairs, Columbia University and Co-Founder of the Teaching Business and Human Rights Forum. In 2018, she Co-founded, Rights CoLab, which seeks to incubate outside-the-box solutions to closing civic space and pressing human rights challenges. At Rights CoLab, Joanne focuses on leveraging finance for corporate accountability, including better integrating human rights into investor backed sustainability standards. The B&HR Access to Justice Lab (A2J Lab) at the Macquarie Law School promotes corporate respect for human rights and access to justice for individuals and communities within Australia and Asia Pacific generally. We seek to bridge power imbalances between corporations and communities by conducting research, developing practical tools, building capacity and offering pro bono assistance to affected rightsholders to seek access to justice for corporate human rights abuses. Through its various activities, the A2J Lab contributes to building a more just and equitable society. The A2J Lab brings together leading business and human rights experts, practitioners, law students and external organisations. To develop effective remedial solutions to address corporate human rights abuses, we work with a diverse range of stakeholders, such as affected communities, businesses, civil society organisations, foundations, lawyers, trade unions, UN agencies and universities.
