“Counterterrorism and Criminal Justice: State of Play and Lessons Learned” Mar 20, 2024 02:00 PM US ECT

 


 

 The ABA International Law Section National Security Committee together with the ABA Senior Lawyers Division International Committee is hosting a quite interesting program on Counterterrorism and Criminal Justice: State of Play and Lessons Learned, 20 March 2024 at 1400 hours US ECT. 

The program will be most ably moderated by Jonathan M. Meyer, Attorney at Law, ABA SLD International Committee Co-Chair | ABA International Law Section National Security Committee Co-Chair. It features Steven Hill, Executive Secretary, International Institute for Justice and the Rule of Law (IIJ), Washington, DC, who will speak about the state of play on several cutting-edge issues in counterterrorism efforts and share practical insights gained from the IIJ’s work with practitioners from various jurisdictions.

Description:  Founded in 2014, the International Institute for Justice and the Rule of Law (IIJ) addresses this national security priority by focusing on building the capacity of criminal justice practitioners to fight terrorism and transnational crime in line with human rights and the rule of law. The IIJ’s audience includes investigators, prosecutors, examining judges, trial judges, prison officials, and law enforcement. Its work promotes exchange and dialogue among practitioners from Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia and their counterparts from the United States and Europe. Based in Malta, the IIJ team draws on practitioners from around the world. The United States co-chairs the IIJ board, which includes 12 other governments and the European Union. The IIJ receives its funding primarily from government donors. It partners with a wide range of organizations. Steven Hill will talk about the state of play on several cutting-edge issues in counterterrorism efforts and share practical insights gained from the IIJ’s work with practitioners from various jurisdictions.
