Law at the End of the Day

Larry Catá Backer's comments on current issues in transnational law and policy. These essays focus on the constitution of regulatory communities (political, economic, and religious) as they manage their constituencies and the conflicts between them. The context is globalization. This is an academic field-free zone: expect to travel "without documents" through the sometimes strongly guarded boundaries of international relations, constitutional, international, comparative, and corporate law.

Call for Papers: Symposium Algorithmic Law and Society; Paris 10-11 September 2020

I am delighted to pass along this call for papers:

HEC Paris, the Law and Society Review, and the Law and Society Association— CRN Law and Development (CRN 52), are issuing a call for original research papers to be presented at the Symposium Algorithmic Law and Society, and to be eventually published in a special issue of the Law and Society Review. The symposium will be held at HEC Paris (France) on Thursday and Friday, September 10-11, 2020.

February 1, 2020: Deadline for Submission of abstracts
February 15, 2020: Notification of acceptance
