In a response to my brief meditations on the dog and pony shows that key members of the Trump Administration undertook in the service of the Administration's plans and processes for finding an end to the Russian invasion of Ukraine from 2014 (The
Great Russo-Ukrainian Deal Dog and Pony Show: Secretary Marco Rubio
Speaks to the Legacy Media to Make the Administration's Case), my friend,
Deimantas Steponavicius, noted in a comment to the posting of those reflections on Linkedin:
These are fluid and ephemeral times we live in. Law has been abolished in the name of transactions, then transactions will be abolished. Truth has been abolished in the name of survival, then survival will be abolished. Life has been abolished in the name of narrative, but narrative will not be abolished. Therefore, master spinners shouldn’t pick sides, if they want to remain in control (otherwise, the characters they narrate will gain control). Master spinners must allow the characters to develop multiple relationships between themselves and do not reserve for themselves the ability to judge. The master spinners are organisers. Everyone is endowed with autonomy and power; the narrators bring all the characters together and create the illusion of allowing their individual spheres. Characters move together, and none can be interpreted in isolation. Master spinners must not impose a single truth upon the whole, as they create a reality where the worlds of the Others too can find place. In this way, entire opposing systems can be absorbed from one world into another without anyone noticing anything. We should keep in mind that Ukraine is on the periphery of the mid-term strategic goal which is breaking the China-Russia partnership.
To this I replied "In the end and its aftermath, as in the beginning, and before that, the three Norns--past, present and future--weave narrative, but in the style of a Penelope waiting for Odysseus who will never come. Perhaps instead the yarn the spinner makes; and in this making the yarn permits the foolish spinner indulge the view that it is the spinner who crafts the yarn" and the tapestry for which it is intended.
Today the yarn spinning continues, this time from the White House:![]() |

American Leadership Is Back Under President Trump
As President Donald J. Trump convenes with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and key European allies at the White House, the world is witnessing the resurgence of American leadership. Through his unrelenting commitment to peace, President Trump is determined to shatter the yearslong impasse and pave a way for an end to the bloodshed.
World leaders credit President Trump’s decisive actions for reigniting the dialogue:
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy: “I think that we had a very good conversation with President Trump… it was really good. We spoke about very sensitive points.”
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte: “I really want to thank you, President of the United States, dear Donald, for the fact that you, as I said before, broke the deadlock basically with President Putin by starting the dialogue … From there, here we are today.”
Finnish President Alexander Stubb: “I think in the past two weeks, we’ve probably had more progress in ending this war than we have in the past three-and-a-half years.”
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni: “It is an important day — a new phase — after three years that we didn’t see any kind of sign from the Russian side that they were willing for dialogue, so something is changing — something has changed — thanks to you.”
United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer: “I think today will be seen as a very important day in recent years in relation to a conflict which has gone on for three-and-a-bit years, and so far, nobody has been able to bring it to this point — so I thank you for that.”
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz: “This is extremely helpful that we are meeting and hearing that the two of you are having such a good meeting today … The path is open. You opened it last Friday — but now the way is open for complicated negotiations.”
French President Emmanuel Macron: “Thank you, Mr. President, for organizing this meeting and for your commitment… everybody around this table is in favor of peace… this is why the idea of a trilateral meeting is very important because this is the only way to fix it.”
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen: “We had a fantastic NATO Summit… We had the largest trade deal ever — agreed. And now, we are here to work together with you on a… lasting peace for Ukraine. Stop the killing. This is really our common interest.”
